What were you taught about money as you were growing up? Something like “money doesn’t grow on trees”, or “money is the root of all evil”, or maybe “all rich people are greedy”?

Well, how do you expect to become a success financially if you believe these things? You attract into your life what are thinking about and what you believe. If you think there is not enough money in this world for everyone you will never have enough money. That is called the Law of Attraction.

First of all, believing that “money doesn’t grow on trees” is an example of what’s called lack or scarcity programming. Our parents taught us that there was never enough money to go around, and that it was not readily available or abundant. But in truth, the universe is very abundant, and there is lots of money to go around for everyone. Just think what you could do if you have so much money how much your heart desires. What wonderful things you could do with it: travel to the countries you have always dreamt of, buy a house you even scared to think about it, attend meditation classes so you could spiritually grow, donate money to your favourite charity, spend more quality time with your family and the list goes on.

The key is to start thinking that you deserve the money and that there is lots of it available for you, and then you can start attracting it into your life. That’s abundance thinking, which is the opposite of lack or scarcity thinking. When you start thinking about the abundance the Law of Attraction will do the rest. You do not need to know how it is going to happen just make the first step, first thought. Starting is already winning.

And what about thinking that “money is the root of all evil”? Can you really expect to become a success if you believe that money is the root of all evil? Unless you have a desire to be an evil person, your subconscious will not let you have money if you believe deep down that it is the root of all evil.

By the way, that quote is taken out of context in the first place. It was originally stated as “the love of money is the root of all evil”. So it has nothing to do with the money itself.

Now that you understand that, you can start to think that money is in fact good. You can help people with money. You can stimulate the economy with money. Even the most kind-hearted spiritual person, who says they don’t need money, can do more to make the world a better place with money than without it.

And what about thinking that “all rich people are greedy”? Well, that creates us versus them, whereby you have labeled all of “them” greedy in your mind. You, on the other hand, are very giving in your mind. That’s why you don’t have money, because you’re not greedy.

Sure, there must be some rich people in the world who are greedy. But there are also poor people who are greedy. There are both rich and poor people who are very giving as well. The amount of money you have has nothing to do with these character traits.

In fact, a lot of rich people got there by not being greedy. Having a giving attitude opens up a flow of money that often brings them more. You will find the same thing… give away money joyfully to a friend, and notice that it comes back to you in some other form. The world needs to be a balance of give and take, and being joyful both as you give and receive will ensure that you always go with the flow.

And changing your mindset from what you were taught as a child to a healthier view of money will allow you to become the financial success you deserve to be, to become real you.

This is another exercise first introduced by Abraham Hicks that I have found to be extremely helpful in creating more money in my life.

Quite often many of us say that we want more money. But because the idea of “really having” a lot of money is so foreign to us – we find it very hard to create it from our current experience.

Because we continually experience lack and are so used to working from that perspective, it is very hard to “really” imagine what having a lot of money “feels” like. And as you know the Law of Attraction works from our “beliefs” and “feelings” about what we are trying to attract.

This is where the Prosperity Game comes in. The Prosperity Game is a practice of receiving checks from “the Universe“ that doubles in its amount every day. Each day as you accept this check it is your job to spend every cent of it. Sounds easy right? But, if you are not used to having a lot of money you will be surprised how hard it is at first to stretch your imagination. This is the most important part of the game. The game is designed so you can practice stretching your limited ideas about money and to get an understanding of what it really “feels” like to have unlimited amount of money at your disposal.

Here are the basics of how the game works, then we will go into the various ways you can play. Every day you will receive a virtual check from the Universe, and each day thereafter it will double in size. So, on day one you will receive a check for $1,000. You need to then spend that entire $1,000 by the end of that day. List each thing you will buy with it and the approximation of what it will cost. The next day you receive a check for $2,000. Again you must spend it all. The next day, $4,000, then $8,000, then $16,000, etc. Each day the day’s before amount doubles. Sound easy enough? You would be surprised how hard it gets when you reach the $100,000 mark.

Now here is the catch. The first rule is you cannot give it away freely to anyone unless it is for a special occasion, i.e., birthday, anniversary, etc. The reason behind this is going with the thought that EVERY one of us can create any amount we desire at any time and that lack is not possible for anyone on this Earth. It is an important part of the exercise to get it into your subconscious that everyone had the same entitlement to create whatever they want in life and it helps to remind you of each persons ability to do this anytime you feel tempted to give them money. (The exception to this rule is if your future plans are to start up your own charity. Then you may list all the things you would need to purchase for it to be successful.)

The second rule is to not put it into any kind of savings unless you saving up for something specific like a house. The reason behind this is that “saving” in its traditional form infers that someday there might not be any more coming in and that you will need money to “fall back on.” If you are a true creator and believer you will realize that there will never be a day when more than enough money is not constantly coming in for your use. Also if you are going to save for the “dream house” it’s probably better that you not do that until your money has reached at least the $100,000 mark. This way you get used to spending the smaller amounts every day.

Different Ways to Play This Game

There are several ways to do this game. It is up to you which inspires you or is the most comfortable for you.

Use Actual Checks:

Do you have any old bank accounts that you have since closed but couldn’t make yourself throw out the box of checks that went with them? They are perfect for this game. Get a blank white envelope and on the front of it write something like: Dear Your Name Here: We love you so much we have decided to give you an allowance for the rest of your life. You deserve this money just for being who you are, because who you are is perfect. This money will double in value everyday because we know that the value of you as a being doubles everyday. Use this abundance to create whatever it is you are wanting to create today and know and trust you will always have more than enough for all that you need. Love Universe (or Higher Self, whichever you prefer).

Then write out the first check for $1,000. Write it To: your name; write in the amount on the line and in the number box. In the Comments portion write: Simply Because You Are and Sign It: Love Universe.

Put this check in the envelope you wrote the other message listed above and place both under your pillow each night before you go to sleep. When you wake up in the morning, always read the message on the front of the envelope first, staple the check to a blank page in a notebook and underneath write down how you are going to spend today’s money. This is a great exercise for tactile people that like to see and feel the experience of money. The opening of the envelope, the removal of the check and the handwritten ways to spend it. If you are the type of person who writes checks and pays their bills by mail this is probably the best exercise for you, because you enjoy or are comfortable with the “feel“ of money.

Build Your Own Spreadsheet

This exercise is for people more comfortable with the computer. It is very simple to create a spreadsheet or word document for this exercise. Type the “envelope saying” listed in the above example on the first page of your word document or spread sheet. Be sure to read this first every day to remind yourself of why you are receiving this money. Then each day start a new page of the document with the new daily amount and type below it what you are purchasing today.

If you are the type of person who loves interacting with the computer this is the perfect program for you. It is totally free and currently has over 22,000 active users. It will customize your “checks” every time you visit. Even if you miss a day – it will pick up from where you left off. The fun of this game is it asks you to focus on what you are wanting, how strong your desire is, how strong your resistance may be when you have to spend your money for the day and it will keep track of every entry so you can always go back and check on previous “purchases” or to see how far you have come. It even has a 21 day email program where they will send your “personalized checks” in the mail until doing the exercise becomes a habit.

Any which way you decide to play the game will be effective. So many of us say that we want to create more money in our lives, but we are so used to living inside our comfort zone that we no longer dream or stretch our minds to the possibility of what having unlimited money really means.

We sometimes get so caught up in just having enough money for the necessities that we have forgotten that we are allowed to extend our desires to the things we are just simply wanting or desiringto experience.

So go give it a try. You might be surprised what you find out about yourself. You may find you place limits on your desires that you weren’t even aware of. Or find that spending all this money on yourself feels a little uncomfortable at first, because deep down you have forgotten that you are naturally deserving of all your desires.

The most important thing you will get out of this exercise however, is experiencing how it really “feels” to have unlimited abundance.

Remember the Law of Attraction brings you what you feel and think abut. So start learning how to think and feel true unlimited abundance and watch how it changes the “real” money you receive everyday.

We create money problems by resisting how much cash we allow to flow into our lives. There is no shortage of money, but a reluctance to feel worthy to receive it, even if it means extreme hardship. This is “money resistance.”

Money resistance, then, is the sub-conscious reluctance to earn more money. It is also a desire to hoard money because you feel insecure about your ability to earn more. In either case, you associate pain to money and try to avoid dealing with it.

You have money resistance when your expenses exceed your income, you feel panicked about how to pay your coming expenses, and you feel uncreative and unresourceful about how to make any more money. You also lack the drive or will to explore how to solve your problem. You have a general feeling of apathy about what to do.

Money resistance is created by the subconscious mind.

Your subconscious mind, which is about 90% or more of your mind, runs you–although, you may believe you are 100% conscious. You are run by your moods, feelings, and past traumas. In the past, when you associated any kind of pain in relationship to money, your subconscious mind tried to keep you safe by trying to bring less money into your life. Thus, you have a reluctance to earn it, save it, and even spend it. There is a general feeling of discomfort around money. You’d rather not deal with it.

You know you have money resistance if you are low on money and feel the pinch.

Most people like to point out their lack of opportunities. But if the world had a dearth of opportunities, then poverty would exist for everyone. However, many people earn large amounts of money. Thus, making money is an inner game. When you feel good about serving others, they gladly pay you for it. If this is not the case, you are either not serving others or associating with negative people. Something needs to shift within you to motivate you to find the right work and be with the right people.

It is ironic that people resist money when they need it–but this is something that happens at the sub-conscious level, not at the conscious level.

It is because money is a highly-emotionally charged subject. This charge creates a strong effect on the subconscious mind. Since most of this charge is negative, that is, pain associated with handling money, a defense mechanism of avoidance kicks in. All of this happens below the threshold of conscious awareness. On the surface of things, people appear to be struggling really hard to make a small amount of money. Yet if making money had to do with hard work, ditch diggers would be millionaires. Making money is a creative act. You have to dig into your well-spring of ideas and energy to start earning more. You can start to retrain your subconscious mind to start working in alignment with your conscious desires. When it does, you will be amazed at your own resourcefulness.

The first impact of healing a money wound is that it will improve your job performance. It will also allow you to be more resourceful in finding or creating a new job if you don’t like your current work.

When you change within, your outer world changes. You become more creative, more resourceful, more outgoing, more giving. You also stop deleting all those opportunities for further education or creative self-expression that you automatically and habitually delete. Once you uproot the reluctance to earn money, you are open to looking at your environment and your relationship to other people in a whole new way.

The only way to get control back, even if things are currently out of control, is by becoming more conscious of what is sabotaging you from within. By uprooting your beliefs about money, beliefs that you don’t even know you have, you start to move in the direction of being resourceful and taking steps to improve your situation.

I was exposed to “money resistance” when working with clients in a therapeutic practice. In that setting, you get to unravel the blocks and inhibitions in people’s subconscious minds. Therapy is bringing the hidden fears into the light of awareness, so that the person can then move beyond it. One of the biggest problems people have is insufficient income to meet their needs. However, once the root cause is pulled up to the conscious mind, you automatically let go of it.

If someone had suggested to me several years ago that the only way of making money was to stop needing it, I would have felt quite angry. How could I stop needing money when I was behind with my mortgage and struggling daily to pay for food? All I could think of was “How do I make money fast?” Yet, day after day, the answer eluded me.

Have you ever felt that the more you need money, the more it seems to escape you? One of the main reasons for this is because when you feel “needy” you are more likely to take whatever is on offer without proper research.

In the early 90s I had paying lodgers to try to supplement my income. When both moved out at the same time I was thrown into a state of dire “need”. In this state of mind I took the next applicant to come along, who turned out to be extremely unreliable. He paid late, he ran up a 300 pound telephone bill and refused to pay it, and stole food from my fridge. I took him to court for the telephone bill and won, but he only paid me back in monthly instalments, which didn’t help me much.

Now, if I had let go of my need and waited for someone of proven reliability, things would have been a whole lot better.

If you feel that you really need money, try asking yourself what would happen if you didn’t get it. Look this fully in the face and ask yourself what you would do then. And then? By looking at the realities of your situation in this way, you may find that even if you don’t get the money that you think you need, you will always find some other way forward.

Sometimes our fear of not having money stops us from really looking at the situation in this way. We refuse to look beyond our own fear, and then our fear actually increases because we feel we are facing something unknown.

Here’s another question: How long could you go without this money before you would be homeless?

Very few people will answer this question in days. For most people it’s usually in months, or even years. In fact, for some, the answer may be never. Most people have friends and family who would never allow that to happen, or at least help out in some way until you are back on your feet.

So, if you have months or years before things get really difficult, why not use this time to try a new way of thinking?

I remember when I was an actress it was often said that the people more likely to be successful in an audition were those who did not feel desperate to get the part. The same thing applies with money.

Try this experiment. Give yourself an amount of time that you know you can survive before things really go pear-shaped, and decide that during this time you will work with the assumption that you do not need money.

I have heard of people doing this and doubling their income within a few months.

You see, when you let go of the fear and stress of neediness, your brain is free to create and be inspired with new ideas and opportunities. While you are in a state of fear you are operating at an extremely ineffective level. You limit your ability to reason and create a vision.

Imagine if you could ask for what you want without the fear of losing it if someone says no. If you own a business, increase your fees. If you are in a job, ask for a raise.

Your ease and lack of desperation is far more appealing to people than if you deal with them out of neediness. We all know how unattractive desperation and neediness is and how attractive a more relaxed attitude is.

But what if I really DO need the money now?

If your situation really is dire, you need to be taking care of this as a priority. Get realistic about your finances. By looking at the stark reality rather than avoiding it, you may find that things are not as bad as you thought, or that a solution makes itself known.

Work out exactly how much time you can go on before push comes to shove, and write out a plan of action. Above all, don’t be a victim. Take charge and believe that you have all the power to change your life. When you feel in control, you feel less needy, and in turn you will create more opportunities for yourself.

Always check your motivation for any money-making task. Are you doing this because you want to, or because you feel you should, or because you are desperate? Notice how the last two deplete your energy levels and the first option increases them. Acting out of enthusiasm and passion because you are enjoying what you are doing is the ONLY way to make money and build lasting financial freedom.
