Web Design Contest: Neg. Occ. Philippines

Posted by: Bibokz In: Contests| Web Design

I’m not fond of judging peoples work, maybe I’m not a critic type of guy who used to criticized something. BUt if it could lead somebody to look forward and to make them aspired to push more harder and become competitive, hope it would make sense.

Bit surprised this morning that our head manager invite me to panel Web Designs Contest conducted by our Province to their tourism growth and development program.

And creating a sensible website is a step with regards to online promotion that could attract tourist here.

See review outcome of the said contest, rating ang comments I have made to several contestant design can be found below.

Eng’r Niel Alado
Roberto Villarna Jr. (Entry No.1)

Although the color was not so striking but the website architecture is designed for quick browsing, easy navigational menu that bring Negros tourism information right away.

Some pages don’t have content, maybe they don’t have enough time to research. The color was playing safe, try to be more artistic by combining pastel colors (happy colors).

Search Engine Friendly.

View Visual

Entry No.2

Catchy to eye plus add the drum beat that made me remember the native tribe somewhere in Africa. Good thing that the site was never made full flash, but the background color are too dark for a tourism website, color should portray happiness, joy, and laughter.

In additional, the lay-out is compatible in internet explorer (IE) but look destructed on firefox - fact, 40% of web surfer use IE, 33% use firefox and the remaining 27% is for other browser like safari, Netscape, and etc.

Less Search Engine Friendly.

Rate: 7.6

Entry No.3

Just a simple website, it looks so plain… attractions needs to be focus since we are promoting tourism here.

Search Engine Friendly.

Rate: 6.5

Entry No.4

White is much better, if you notice and use the color combination on your splash banner “Negros Occidental” then, this might be more attractive.

Lay-out is compatible in IE but not in firefox. I’m looking forward to see more feature attractions on the main page.

Search Engine Friendly.

Rate: 7

Escalante City (Entry No.5)

It made me not to look or browse the site, looks like a gamer’s website. Full of flash widgets and I can find the tourism concept or theme.

It’s just a template I guess, Develop and try to be more artistic. Want to see your latest design next year.

Not Search Engine Friendly.

Choosing the right Web Promotion Company for your internet marketing or search engine optimization (SEO) campaign would make your Return on Investment (ROI) increased and choosing a wrong company could make your effort and money goes in vain.

The question is, how could you choose a good Web Promotion Company?

Jumping in unknown water is very risky and dangerous, always put in mind that you need to measure and anticipate everything before you jump by following scientific methods:

Gather information on different company

  • Do they have set-up fees? (Most of the company offer paid set-up, I know several companies who doesn’t charge set-up fees)
  • If they, how much? (The right fee goes around $99)
  • How much is the current market price for this internet marketing campaign? (For me $100/year for minimum competitive keyphrase)
  • What can they offer? (Copywriting, link building, press release, syndications, social media promotion, PPC)
  • Span of works and terms of service.
  • Do they offer guarantee? (Money back guarantee never exist anymore, but top 10 in major search engine is fair, increased of traffic, conversion rates)
  • Do they provide search engine ranking report? (Yes, they should provide you that every month so that you can monitor how its going… if not forget them.)
  • When will you start seeing results? (3-6 months if you ask me, depends on how competitive are the keyphrases, domain aging; old sites tend to rank better)
  • What techniques do they use to optimize my site? (Avoid blackhat SEO, spamming and cloaking techniques)
  • Ask a portfolio.

Analyze the data - be sure that they provide you the exact details needed, compare their rates and services, try to contact the subject they give on their portfolio and ask how they perform
Interpret data and form conclusion - weight the results according to the specification above.

Test - Don’t give them do the whole thing, let them run on testing period, start on single site if you have number of website to be optimized, just let them work in a few target keywords and keyphrases.

If they work and made your ROI increased, that’s the time you let them work full.

Web Design for Article site

Posted by: Bibokz In: Web Design

Email Recap:

Hey Archy,

I have a new project, but really do not have anything to get it started. She is a startup and does not have a logo or anything.

She is doing an article website where people can send in questions and she will write articles about it. She likes a newspaper layout as she says, and that she likes the New York times website.

The articles will be in categories, so we will have more than one “article” area. She will also allow people to ask questions, both free and paid questions. We need to do something that looks a little bit cooler than an average newspaper website.

The name of her site is “The Advice Website”.

See what you can come up with for this, I know it is isn´t exactly easy since we don´t have anything to work with. But let´s just start somewhere and see what it leads to.

All the best,
*****

So I come up to this:

Thu, June 12, 2008 8:31 pm

Hey Archy,

The design looks pretty good. Can you remove the “about the author”, I know she does not want focus on them. You can do a “survery” there instead, but that would only take up about half the width of the about the author column, so you can extend the articles from the left. You can also make the opening page image smaller, she probably will not be using images a lot, so they don´t need as much attention. The image could be half the size, and just have more content around it.

Also can you replace the links on there to these:

1. Topics

a. Love

b. Relationships

c. Marriage

d. Future

e. Career

2. General questions

3. Confidential questions (Payment required)

4. Newsletter

5. Contact us

6. About Kim

7. Sitemap

8. Privacy policy

9. Legal

10. The store (hidden)

Based on press released provided by Google official blog, written by posted by Omid Kordestani, Senior VP, Global Sales and Business Development. Google announced a non-exclusive advertising agreement with its number one search information technology competitors Yahoo! to access Adsense for their advertising campaign programs on various areas, also providing innovated messaging services to allow user an effective online communication.

Big clarifies that they made this agreement for users, advertisers and publishers good cause. Confirmed that this agreement is not a tread to emerge on Yahoo! that they are still in competing field, doesn’t cage Yahoo! to do similar agreement on other company such Microsoft, doesn’t share their search traffics, and most of all; doesn’t raise prices for advertisers.
